About Us Executive Team > Michelle Mercer BSN, COO Michelle’s passion for Embark grew out of her early experiences as an oncology nurse at a major university hospital and as a dialysis nurse caring for critically ill patients with end stage kidney disease. Michelle experienced firsthand how one of life’s most difficult experiences was made much easier when patients documented and discussed their end-of-life choices with their loved ones and healthcare providers. Her passion to help patients, families, and care givers through this traumatic time has been fulfilled through Embark Health, Inc. Michelle has led the operational efforts of healthcare entities for more than 25 years. Most recently, she spent close to 10 years at Cogent Healthcare, Inc. one of the nation’s largest hospital medicine companies, as Senior Vice President, Corporate Services and Compliance Officer. With Cogent, she created and launched a number of key programs including a formal classroom and e-learning training and development “Academy”, a Coding Training and Auditing Program, and the company’s Compliance and HIPAA Programs. She was responsible for running the firm’s service center which included billing, transcription, a 24/7 call center and other back office functions for Cogent hospitalist physicians nationwide. For the prior seven years, she was Associate Executive Director of Humana Health Care Plans, a role in which she ran all medical management, medical cost control, successful NCQA accreditation efforts, and medical quality assurance functions. She has also held leadership positions in hospital and nursing management for Humana Hospital Daytona Beach and AMI (American Medical International) California. She is a certified R.N. Coder and a licensed Registered Nurse. |
